2 May 2022

Dear Everyone:

Undoubtedly because the year is coming to a close, there is a profusion of events to report, so I’m devoting this week’s message toward those instrumental ends. I suspect there might be more to come, so please keep an eye out for the more!

First, though, hearty congratulations to the planners of and participants in the ESA’s conference this past weekend — Janelle Poe, Meli Kimathi, Dr. Vanessa Hein, Dasharah Green, and Jeff Voss — created a vibrant and vital space despite the especial challenges of doing so in these times. Huge appreciation and thanks on behalf of us all!

Second, we’ll be holding our end of year program events this coming Friday, 6 May! The Open Executive Committee meeting will be from 2-4p, and we’ll cover such things as curriculum (with attention especially to the foreign language requirement) and the student survey conducted by the GC early this year, as well as revisit things done and things still needing doing. More details and zoom links to follow.

After the open meeting, we’ll do prizes and awards! To be followed in turn by ESA’s Revels!

Third, many of you will be interested in this event tomorrow (Tuesday, 3 May) organized by Maddie Barnes, Generating Interest in Your Work: Do’s and Don’ts from a Book Publicist.” It’ll be at noon,
and more info is here https://publicslab.gc.cuny.edu/events/generating-interest-in-your-work-dos-and-donts-from-a-book-publicist/  and registration is here: https://gc-cuny-edu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcld-utpjwiGdfH5_b7rsjzWcV62pFKMnFJ

And, finally for now, commencementJune 9, Barclays Center! Please note that students renting or purchasing gowns directly should do so as soon as possible and no later than 12 May to get the gowns mailed to you on time! I’ll be at commencement and am looking so forward to celebrating with everyone! All the info is here, fyi: https://www.gc.cuny.edu/commencement/commencement-2022

With abundant well wishes as ever, and especial cheers of encouragement in pushing through these final weeks of this year — see you at one or another of these events, I hope!
